My son and I have fished both the Fountainhead Stonefly 360's for a couple of years and own a Caddis as well. We have enjoyed them on bow, brooks, and smaller browns in The Smokies. I want to start spending some time hunting for large browns 20"+ class. However, this would require "chucking" weighted sz 12 tandem nymphs and probably additional split shot to highstick and bump the biggest and deepest pools in the river which can be quite deep. I understand that this not "pure Tenkara" and I probably won't stop the biggest ones. I just don't know if this is a realistic application for a Tenkara rod or would I be better off with a more traditional nymphing rod. I have fished with nymphs of course but not to this extreme. Any thoughts or advice or experience with a tandem nymphing set-up or using weighted flies on a Tenkara rod or limitations would be appreciated.
